About the Artist
The UK indie scene is about as exciting as a music scene can get. The amount of talent coming out of there is enough to keep any music fanatic busy for a long time. Eliza May is particularly an artist to watch. This radio-ready musician has been producing phenomenal work for some time and Fifteen Minutes of Fame isn’t even close to being the first to notice.
May, in her 7 years as a recording artist, has been featured in DORK magazine, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, and Music Crowns. She has opened for acts like Kate Nash, Gabriellle, and the iconic 80’s legend, Tiffany. She’s played music festivals like Y Not?, Truck Festival, and opened on the main stage at Pub in the Park. She has also previously been featured in a Blind Reaction video by Fifteen Minutes of Fame back in February of this year.
Debuting in 2018, May released her single, The Fall, in March of that year. This pop-alt, R&B song is a soft, slow to mid-tempo ballad featuring May with the accompaniment of a full band and backing vocals. Opening with May and a clean electric guitar, The Fall introduces May in a way that focuses on her versatility as a vocal performance.
May followed her debut release in June of 2018 with the release of Noughts and Crosses; a mid-tempo, groovy R&B/alt rock tune. With hints of influences coming from Blues, Jazz, and other genres, May began demonstrating her versatility as an artist with the release of just two songs. Her silky vocal presence draws many comparisons; like early Sheryl Crow, Natalie Imbruglia, and Tracy Chapman.
In 2019, May released her debut EP, The Fall, which featured her first two singles, along with two more new songs; Fading Away and I Plead. The strength represented in this debut is striking and noticeable, as May uses every bit of the 20-minute run time to show what she can do. With clear, crip deliver of her lyrics, a higher alto range performance, she also demonstrates a smooth transition to performance in her upper register. She can lock in on a ballad and she stands out in an up-tempo performance as well.
May followed The Fall with the release of her 2023 EP, Candy Heart. Candy Heart released on February 11th of 2023, following the release of two singles in 2022; Edge of This and the title track. This 5-song short play runs just over 23 minutes and shows May truly growing as an artist as she exhibited refined performance in the styles of music she introduced us to back in 2019. Additionally, this is when things started to gain traction for May, as she was starting to be recognized in the previously mentioned blogs, radio stations, and she was earning performance slots in some notorious festivals. She produced the incredible music video for Candy Heart, which was the video featured in the FMOF Blind Reaction in February, and she also produced a music video for Edge of This.
Following her second EP, May released the single, Got My Love in August of 2024. This year, May played the Main Stage at Front Row Fest, and will be playing Diva Fest in August, along side mainstream talent, The Fratellis.
About the Song
Money is the first release for UK Indie artist, Eliza May in 2025, following the 2024 release of Got My Love. It released on June 26, 2025, and has a run time of three minutes, forty seconds. It features a vocal performance by May, accompanied by Sophie Snelling on lead guitar, Jarred Tyson on keyboard, Ben Cooper on bass, and Jack Ensor on percussion. Money is an independently released single, and was produced by Thomas Davies. Money is preceded by May’s upcoming 3rd EP; following 2023’s Candy Heart.
About the Music
Money is an up-tempo, groove pop R&B song, pulling influence from Blues Rock, alternative rock, and indie rock. Money’s lead and backing performances are performed by May and are performed throughout the song. Additionally, May is supported by the full force of the band from start to finish. The tempo is consistent throughout, with the exception of a bridge that tags on each accent/chord change.

As the song begins, the instruments are locked in with one another. Standout performances are on the lead guitar, with Snelling’s staccato delivery of a melodic lead performance, and the moving bass guitar performed by Cooper. The percussion is very pocket, providing subtle fills throughout the song that are just the right amount of ornamentation to bring out the dynamics and accents. Ensor has complete control of the rhythm and timbre. Tyson’s performance on keys provides an additional layer to the track and fills the sound space to give Money volume throughout.
May’s vocal performance is a solid one. She fluidly articulates one lyric after another, with a silky tone, and incorporates vocal rolls and vibrato in places which help round out a colorful performance. Her backing vocals provide layers of sound and excellent harmonization to the performance. Once again, there’s not much to say in the way of critical analysis. Eliza May is a radio-ready artist who could just as easily crossover to becoming a mainstream talent today. One moment in the song I absolutely love is the bridge, where May has the freedom to create liberally and she takes advantage, providing a strong, beautiful vocal performance that carries the weight of filling the sound space with wonderful music.
Final Thoughts

Eliza May hits every mark as an independent artist. She has a powerful voice, capable of performing in a diversity of genres. She is supported by a band of talented musicians. She is dedicated to her artist campaigns, and the promotion of her music. The production value of her music and her videos are high quality and performance ready.
Money is a strong single and, along with Got My Love, indicate a very promising release ahead as we look forward to the release of May’s third EP. Two lead singles and a couple of performances at some very notorious music festivals have her poised to have a very successful run with this release. Don’t miss your chance to see Eliza May at the 2025 Divas Fest in Malpa, along with other talented indie artists on August 7th. You can get tickets for the event on May’s Spotify profile.
