As promised with this campaign, I really wanted to give every artist a chance to submit music for review. There have been many wonderful submissions so far. I thought the best way to give everyone a chance to be heard is to cover as many artists as possible through Spotlight reviews. I am so PUMPED to be going through these! Let’s go!

Hangover & Gone Away Dear, Cover Art

Hangover & Gone Away Dear by Anna Carmody

If I am being honest, it has been about a year since Anna Carmody submitted for a review. As I had just started Fifteen Minutes of Fame, I was committed to a strict release date requirement for the reviews I was writing at the time. The submission was for the album I’m the Fool, which had released in 2022.

Even though I wasn’t able to write the review then, I was blown away by the album. The tonal quality of Carmody’s voice, the songwriting; it was so good. It caught me off guard and just blew me away.

Carmody debuted in 2020 with the release of the single, Million Pieces, then followed it with the 2021 single Summer Air.

In 2022, she released I’m the Fool and the single Loving You, It Ain’t Easy. Then, in 2023, Carmody released her last track to date, with the single Circles featuring Colin Jackson.

Then, something major happened in Carmody’s life: motherhood. Of all the worthy reasons to table a potential career as an independent artist, that one certainly takes the cake. Recently though, Carmody has been more active on her social media profiles, hosting songwriting workshops and going live to perform. She has even stated that she has been “getting back into songwriting again,” so I have high hopes that this could mean some possible new releases in the not so distant future??? Only time will tell..

About the Music

Hangover & Gone Away Dear is an A/B side single released by Irish-artist, Anna Carmody. It hit streaming platforms on October 15th, 2021. The two songs run at approximately 8 minutes. Like most of her work, this body of work would best fit in the genre of alt folk, alt rock, indie folk, and roots fusion music.

With Gone Away Dear, Carmody starts in with a melancholic chord progression on the piano. Her vocals come in shortly after. Sung in nearly a whisper, the song sounds like sitting by a window on a cloudy, rainy day. Gone Away Dear reflects on the ending of a doomed relationship, where the narrator looks back at the fonder memories in sadness, acknowledging the legitimacy of the love that did once exist.

Hangover, like Gone Away Dear, is a ballad performed solely on the piano. Also in a melancholic tone, this song is reflecting on an existing relationship where the narrator is starting to see the walls crumble. Comparing the feeling to a “bad hangover,” wanting to know when (and how) it will end.

Blind Reaction of The Last New Invention by Campbell McKinzie

This music video was such a pleasant surprise as I was equally entertained by both the music and the video! Musically, Campbell McKinzie displayed a huge range of talent, performing every instrumental and vocal part on his own. Fun fact: This song and video are an excerpt from an 84 minute song ( I am currently listening to the entire thing as we speak)

The music video was a very entertaining and happy tale of inventing a robot that kills us all and takes over the world….

Wait that’s not right.

I am going to say less and let you go press play!

Blind Reaction of See No Difference by DuncanC

I will confess, this music video borderlines being a lyric video but, since there was an evident storyline applicable to the theme of the song and lyrics, I decided to roll with it!

Simply put, See No Difference is a simple, sweet love song. It is performed on acoustic guitar with a small organ appearance and vocally performed by DuncanC
