Daredevil and Wicked Love by Menna

About the Artist
I could not be more excited than the fact that we are talking about an upcoming Menna album! Especially since she is beginning to release singles for it.
Menna is an independent musician out of Nashville that has had a fair amount of time in the spotlight, though she deserves a whole lot more.
She debuted as a recording artist back in 2018 with her debut single, Ride, and has steadily been releasing singles since then. In 2021, she released a Holiday single, Good King Wenceslas that breached a million streams on Spotify, then, last year she released her most successful single to date, with Sex in Public, which has more than 7 million streams on Spotify to date.
Menna is a particularly special artist for me. In July 2024, I started Fifteen Minutes of Fame by putting out 3 articles discussing what this would be and a 4th article, which was my first technical review of Luis G’s album. None of those publications were actually part of the submission process that has made FMOF what it is today. The very first article to do that was a single review of Menna’s song Didn’t Peak in High School.

That was my 5th ever article. Now, at 198, we are talking about her upcoming debut album. It’s amazing!

About the Music
So, this is a little different because this article will feature 2 single releases by 2 artists (would that be a double-double feature?).
Menna has released two singles ahead of her upcoming album. On September 2nd, she released the single Wicked Love and October 21st, she released Daredevil. Both songs run at around 3 minutes each and were released under Flaming Vegan Deer Head, with the latter also being published by Static Flight Music Publishing.
There is something certainly thematic about the art for both songs with both album covers featuring gothic or medieval weaponry.
Daredevil is a very impressive production, with a strong synth and percussive accompaniment which all support Menna’s strong vocal performance. There are striking similarities to Tove Lo’s recent work with her Dirt Femme album. Menna shows as much control and capability in her performance here.
With Wicked Love, there is a little more subtlety to the introduction of the song. Leading with synths and some experimentation with some delays to pull some really cool sounds, the body of the song comes in as a slow groove, but still a little more movement than what would be in a ballad.
Menna’s vocals are a very strong and captivating feature in this release. In particular, at around the 1:20 minute mark there is this excellent A Capella sequence where she has layered vocals that are performed in a call and response before joining timing together as the sequence ends. I had to rewind it and listen to it probably 10 times because it was so cool.
With Wicked Love and Daredevil giving us a taste of what’s ahead for Menna, I have to say I am very eager to hear this album. I’ve always known a Menna album would be great and she is giving us some great assurances that this will be the case.
Late to Work and Eden by Hope Overlook

About the Artist
Staying in Nashville, I’ve recently discovered this next indie artist’s music from TikTok. Hope Overlook is a lifetime musician-literally. When she was learning her “ABC’s and 123’s,” the first thing she ever wrote was a song, which might be a surprise to everyone that is not a member of her family. However, growing up in a music and dance family, it seemed to come natural to her.
At 17, when most kids are asking for cars, clothes, and money, Overlook was asking her parents for a starter kit for an in-home recording studio, where her life as an independent recording artist got its start.
Now, she operates an entire DIY industry through her own independent label, Tiny House Records, where she writes, performs, engineers, mixes, and masters her work. Oh, she even does the cover art for her releases!
Overlook debuted in 2023, with the singles Black Ice and Store-Bought Dopamine. In 2025, she released her debut EP, Hope Overlook. This 5-song debut runs at 14 minutes and features singles that was released in the months leading to her debut.
One thing I noted about Hope Overlook is that she identifies as an “alternative singer/songwriter,” in her bio. Not alt rock, or alt pop, or alt folk. Just alternative, which leaves the door open for interpretation. Musically, I would say this checks out because she exhibits moments where she could any or all of these styles of music. Overlook exhibits an exciting amount of potential and she has already shown an expert skill set. To think she’s just getting started is very impressive.

About the Music
Eden released October 11th and Late to Work released October 18th. Eden, an acoustic ballad supported by synths that sustain a gentle ambient tone throughout, sounds like an indie folk song. Hope Overlook paints an extravagant image of visiting the biblical Garden of Eden, and making note of the characteristic flaw within Utopia; the snake.
Overlook’s vocals are delivered with a blanket of air. The layers of backing vocals encompass the energy of Eden as they flow through the record, filling all of the gaps in the sound space with sustained, serene harmony.
With Late to Work, there is an evident shift in dynamic. Where Eden is a soft, harmonic, folk sounding record, Late to Work shows more of an alt pop feel. The vocals are more percussive, with layers surrounding the lead.
Incorporating drums and a moving bass part, Late to Work is more dynamic throughout. Overlook understands her strengths as a vocalist as there is a fantastic vocal passage that takes place at around 1:45 minutes. As with Menna’s song, this starts out as an A Capella sequence, before percussion and bass synths sneak into the mix.
Hope Overlook is an impressive artist even before learning that she is completely and totally a DIY musician. Understanding that she is a one-person production crew makes it all the more sensational when listening to her work.
Go press play!
