Well, I said at the beginning of the month I was going to slow it down for the holidays but I am getting so many inspiring submission, I haven’t wanted to. Seriously, there is so much cool stuff coming this way. I am having a BLAST with FMOF right now!
Flicker by Dave Hawkins

Dave Hawkins, is an indie pop/alt rock singer-songwriter out of Denver, Colorado, in the US. He specializes in programming, while incorporating guitar, piano, and synth elements to his work. In October, he released an EP on Bandcamp and has been releasing singles from the EP every month.
In October, FMOF covered his song, With Love, which you can read about right here. Last month, he dropped A Loop, which is was a synth masterpiece that sounded like a happy version of Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe’s film score for Candyman (2021).
Hawkins’ ability to bridge alt-pop synths and programming and indie rock elements really make him a special artist and I’m always very excited to see when he has new releases come out.
About the Song
“I’m really pissed off” ~ Dave Hawkins
That’s how this email started out when Dave sent out the announcement for his new song, Flicker. Flicker, a song that released on December 5th and runs at approximately 4 and a half minutes, was written by Hawkins and is about “raising hopeful kids in a world of insidious billionaires.”
Ok, the “I’m pissed” email tracks.
Musically, I love this. Dave ROCKS the 3/4 tempo, as he plays it in a swing. It really has a lovely flow to it. The blend between the synths and guitars truly is special. There are layers of arpeggiated synths and overtones with saw and pad effects that just give Flicker a variety of soundscapes to operate within.
Hawkins’ vocals are sweet and fluid; they move right through the melody effortlessly. His range is on the upper end of baritone but he’s probably more of a tenor. His tone is bright and soft. The vocal harmonies hit hard on this track.
“One of those billionaire families successfully lobbied the city of Denver and managed to roll back a safe street design- that was planned right in front of my kids’ school- so that they could turn out of their gated community more easily.” – Dave Hawkins
I feel this rage. I am an unapologetic Taylor Swift fan. I think she is a strong folk singer/songwriter and, as my readers know, I love folk. Recently, my son (who is not a fan) hit me with the “do you think there are any ethical billionaires?” think piece.
Damn. Got me.
The answer is there isn’t. I don’t think; I know that if I had the means of that kind of privilege, I would be giving my wealth away to the world that is bleeding. While the US government fights desperately to not feed the hungry, I would be working my ass off to undo their hate. I’m not saying I’m the champion of ethics, I’m saying that I (want to) believe I am the standard. I think Dave is right there with me.
Go buy Dave’s music on bandcamp. His entire catalog is for sale for $0.50. The EP is available as a free download. Pay what you can. Pay what you think it’s worth. He’s brilliant and he’s got a message for the world that I will gladly buy into.
Only Legends Full Send by Agent of Kaos

We’re going to keep things in Denver. Agent of Kaos is a DJ and producer out of Denver who has a really cool platform on social media. I love catching his TikTok videos, as he breaks down society, life, and all of the wonderfully disappointing things everywhere and in between.
About the Song
Only Legends Full Send released on November 21st and features Exxcite. It runs at about 4 minutes and was produced and performed by Agent of Kaos.
I love the different segments of this song. The different synths used give this mix full body. It has a solid beat drop at a couple of different places. This is an excellent mix and it’s produced wonderfully.

Not Music, but an UPDATE on the Upcoming Album by Lexie Modica
Lexie Modica, a singer-songwriter out of Minnesota, has been a centerpiece for Fifteen Minutes of Fame on a number of occasions. In fact, her song Home was one of my first ever reviews when I published it last July.
Though Lexie did just release music (and it is great I might add), I wanted to talk about her campaign to raise funds for releasing her debut album. With one day left, she is SO CLOSE to her goal. 90% of the way there, I think it would be so cool if there were any readers out there who could help get her a little closer to that target. There are also some really cool gifts that come with some of the donation options- be sure to read through the Campaign page!
And, I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND you to go stream The Boots which released digitally on all streaming platforms on December 5th.
