Little Green

Sometimes, we hear words and we play the thought exercise, “what’s the first thing you think of when you hear…” For instance, when I hear the word “love,” I jump to “happy,” or something else positive. That’s putting it very simple, and that is what comes to mind while listening to Little Green’s newest single.

I think most of us know that love is more complicated than “happy.” Sometimes it’s not happy at all. Sometimes it’s tragic. Love is directly or indirectly responsible for how I’ve felt at my very best in this life and for how I’ve felt at my very worst. I’ve never felt closer to somebody else than when I am in love with them. Love has also made me feel more lonely than ever too. In fact, if I think too much on it, I would say that there’s nothing simple about love.

Little Green is an independent artist out of Sydney, Australia. She has been releasing music for approximately 5 years now. Stylistically, her music touches on a few different genres but I would say is primarily alt-folk. Earlier this year, she released quite an incredible album, Life in Ashes. This makes three released albums for her. With a solid social media foundation built on hundreds of thousands of followers, millions of views, streams, and so on, Little Green is at minimum an artist on the verge of breakthrough success.

The question is, “what does that mean?” Well, it could mean everything, or it could mean nothing. I could name 100 artists who are mainstream today that I would swap Little Green out with and there are another hundred right beside her I would take as well. She is an insane talent. She is an incredible writer, a lovely and unique vocalist, and a diversely talented multi-instrumentalist. If this were twenty-five years ago, I have no doubt in my mind that somebody would walk into a bar or club and hear her and immediately be sold on promoting and cultivating this artist’s career.

The internet, however, doesn’t consider pure talent. Sometimes, I don’t know if it is too big or too small. I’ll probably never figure it out. I guess it’s a good thing that I don’t really care what the internet thinks. I care about what I think is good, authentic, and sincere. These are all qualities I guarantee can be found here with this artist.

Little Green released Life in Ashes in February of this year, and just three months later, she is following it up with a brand new single. I think this song is deeply layered, just like Little Green’s entire catalogue of work.

Who Do You Love

Who Do You Love, Cover Art

Who Do You Love released on May 14th, 2026. It runs at around 3 minutes and 20 seconds. It features Little Green on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, and Deb Taylor on backing vocals. It is more heavily on the folk side of Little Green’s sound. There are a plethora of things that make this song so special. First, it is both raw and polished. It is brilliantly composed. The guitar part and the vocal arrangements are just magnificent. The lyrics are well thought out, they tie the entire song together and help it flow so perfectly.

I really love how this song sounds like it was recorded in about 20 minutes. There aren’t a lot of editing tricks and tools that are being used here. It is just Little Green doing big things in her performance. It certainly isn’t under-produced either. It’s perfect. I wouldn’t touch a single dial. I wouldn’t sneeze around the control board. The recording picks up every single note that is being played on this guitar. The guitar and lead vocals are dead front and center and they command such attention that it leaves listeners (this listener, at least) paralyzed.

The progression played by the guitar is filled with passing tones and chords that connect the very first note to the very last one. They create a timbre and cadence that remove any want or desire to have any other percussion present. There isn’t another vocal arrangement that exists in all of music’s theoretical possibility that would be a better substitution for what Little Green has done around this accompaniment. She sings softly, letting her whispered words bounce through the progression before exploding in the chorus with resonance.

The lyrics provide a spectrum of emotional context, leaving a feeling of being both in and out of control. Little Green asks her audience “Who do you love when you’re all alone and no one’s calling but the stars up above?” She asks “If I find the strength to keep on walking down this road, then will you take me home?” She asks “Who do you trust when your face to face with eyes of love you lost?” She asks “How do you see with eyes so bright an angel shining from the bow underneath?” These questions are all about love but they approach the subject from so many different manners. Sadness, isolation, idolization, affection, loss, and risk. She has done such a wonderful job at categorizing how complex the emotion is. It is a perfect adhesion to the composition, making this song feel as real as it possibly could.

Little Green

Little Green is off to a sensational start in 2026. On the heels of a stellar album, she has put out what might be the very best single of the year to date. Who Do You Love checks every single box for a radio-ready song. The only thing it needs is more ears to hear it. It is one I will be recommending for the foreseeable future. Don’t take my word for it though.
