Major Play, Cover Art

Major Play by Bristol’s Man at Sea is a very cool very impressive alt-pop, alt-folk song that released on the 2nd. It is very minimalist, with nods to artists like The National and Beck. The progression is anchored by piano and accompanied by a series of woodwind instruments. Man at Sea’s David Hewson provides a beautiful baritone vocal performance that adds layers, little by little, as the song progresses.

ilulissat is a 6-song instrumental EP by Australian artist, Stubai. The culmination of this 33-minute EP consists of beautiful, ambient sounds inspired by a trip to Greenland’s Ilulissat Iserjord, which is perfectly illustrated in the reverberating chamber strings and chimes, as they patiently find the exact sound that articulates every moment.

Slow Dancing, Cover Art

Slow Dancing is the latest single by the quickly-rising indie-pop duo Girlfriend, Wife. This newest release is upbeat, moving, and has a soft energy that can easily be danced to. It’s positive, it is free, and it does everything right.

Faultline is a 4- song EP by The Marches, an Indie Rock Band out of Scotland. Faultline has a very cool, nostalgic feel to it. It has a pull to peak 90’s alt rock. Full percussion, dynamic guitar, and a bass player that knows how to anchor the rhythm and melody. The Habit is a standout song. I love the transitions from clean to distorted guitar. The vocal performance is so good, it practically enchants its listener.

Haunted House, Cover Art

Haunted House is the latest single released by Australian-based folk singer/songwriter, Shannon Jade. Similar to indie musician, Aimee Carty, Jade’s song is intentionally minimalist, underproduced, giving a really organic experience to the listener, as if we are in the room listening to her sing and play the song on her guitar. It’s imperfect in every way that makes a song wonderful.

dead end by rising indie pop singer, Amelia Kalia, is a synth-heavy, abstract mid-tempo ballad. Kalia gives a memorable performance with disciplined, gentle vocals that whisper through the composition. Backed with layers of vocoders and synths that give strength to the melody, this is an emotionally captivating song.

Not Falling, Cover Art

Not Falling is a sweet alt-folk duet between Drew Nold and Emily Gray. This song has a really cool chamber feel to it. Guitars layered, cello, and Nod and Gray both singing over the accompaniment. I love the blend between the two vocalists. Their voices are individually distinct but they pair so well together. I love the closing section of the song that almost has this Dashboard Confessional vibe playing out to the conclusion.

when december comes is a sensational single by rising star, Liv Romano. This alt-folk singer is doing everything right and this song is her latest contribution to a pure and powerful sound that has her destined for success. This song plays throughout like it’s waiting for something big, then at the 1:40 mark, it comes in a rushing build to the music.
