Sarah Smith has just released her second single, and is showing that this could be the start of a very promising career.
New York-based indie artist, Sarah Smith, debuted a year ago with the release of her single No Hard Feelings. A year later, she is back with a new single and it’s really good.
Smith, a professional dancer who has worked for Nickelodeon, the Brooklyn Nets, and more, has been performing since she was four. It wasn’t until college, however, that she began writing her own music. It was around this time that she met producer Carlos Ruiz who recognized her talent and potential and helped to bring the music out of her.

Point of No Return, the second single by New York indie artist, Sarah Smith, released September 30th. It is a dark, synth-pop song that “explores desire, anxiety, and self-sabotage.” (EPK) Point of No Return has a 4-minute run time.
“It’s a song for the anxious-avoidant girlies. I am drawn to big, nostalgic pop that can make sadness and anxiety feel cinematic and beautiful.” ~ Sarah Smith
A slight departure from No Hard Feelings, Point of No Return is darker, anxious, and driven. Powered by a techno beat and saw-like synths, Smith pours emotion over the instrumental tracks like syrup. Working with Ruiz, she was able to articulate the feelings of both, wanting and resisting the want, to be chosen.
Smith also collaborated with her co-writer and twin brother, Jason Smith, to help direct her lyrics and the melody to place where they could tell her story, the way she envisioned it. “ I grew up on the Tumblr and recession-pop eras, and I love that melodramatic world-building, where escapism and anxiety can coexist.”
With striking similarities to pop sensations like Tove Lo and Robyn, it Point of No Return pairs Sarah Smith’s passion for music with her dance background, as it is a song made to be danced to.
