Lucy Clearwater

In a World Overwhelmed by an Uncertain Future, Lucy Clearwater is Steadfast with a Sound Enriched in Tradition

It’s only been a few months since People ≠ Possessions, but Lucy Clearwater isn’t hiding away. In a couple of days, she will be playing the People Festival in Berlin, Germany, before heading back stateside in November for two more months of touring.

She has also just released her first single since the album, with Liar releasing on October 1st.

Liar, released through Tone Tree Music on October 1st, features Lucy Clearwater on vocals and acoustic guitar. It is every bit of a folk song, channeling legendary folk musicians like Joan Baez or bluegrass legend Kathy Mattea.

Instrumentally, Liar is gently picked on an acoustic guitar by Clearwater, as the strings provide a warm accompaniment to her vocals. Her voice is smooth, soft, and offer a sense of wisdom. The composition is deep, gentle, and it is disarming. Lyrically, she is forgiving and realistic. She is kindly relentless.

“I wanna remember you sweetly. I wanna remember you kind. I wanna remember you treating me well. Oh, but I don’t wanna lie, don’t wanna lie.”

This song is a statement. More and more, I find myself gravitating to organic music. As I look around me, I see a growing audience doing the same.

This is one to put everything else down and just listen to. Liar is stunning.
