Marta Per

I’ve been listening to Marta Per actively for over a year now and the thing I love about every one of her releases is how she challenges her listeners to find the subtle changes in the music. This can be a stylistic influence, a theoretical focus, or something else entirely.

Per, a London-based independent recording artist, has been releasing music since 2022. Her releases typically come in EP form and usually feature 2-3 singles released prior to the EP. Her last release, Favourite Way of Existing, released in June of 2025 and was featured in a review here.

The Drifting Side (Summer), Cover Art

The Drifting Side (Summer) is the third EP release by Marta Per. Unlike previous releases, Per didn’t release any singles prior to its release. There are 3 songs and the EP runs at around 11 minutes.

There are a couple of things that stand out with this EP. First, this is her first multi-lingual release with Contratempo and second, the little flavor of blues and reggae that have been incorporated into the music. These subtle nods to these genres of music paint the atmosphere around the overall vibe of the body of work.

The three songs have a vintage feel to them but are very much contemporary songs. The fusion of older influence to her contemporary songwriting is fantastic. I love the airy reverb around the guitars on Speak to Me right before hitting the passing accent markers on the passing choruses. That and the sweet little guitar solo at the end.

This is a very quick listen and a very enjoyable one. Marta Per is one of those artists that when one of her songs pops up on my playlist, I have to go back and listen to the whole EP. She is a very fun artist.

Go press play and enjoy!
