In an effort to address every release I want to feature in lieu of the time I took away, I’ve decided to bring back the Fifteen Minutes of Fame Spotlights article format! This article features three artists who I’ve covered in the past. Three fantastic women who are producing some great independent music!
Watermelon Sugar (Acoustic Cover) – by MoonDreams Music
Watermelon Sugar is the second single release by MoonDreams Music in 2026, not including two remixes of her first of the year, Summer Suite. It is an acoustic cover of Harry Styles’ iconic hit from 2019’s Fine Line. It features a vocal performance by MoonDreams Music accompanied by acoustic guitar.
Watermelon Sugar is a brilliant song and it’s been one I’ve particularly enjoyed of the many that Harry Styles has released over the years. MoonDreams Music brings a new sound to a familiar song with her cover here. Listening to this one stripped back to just an acoustic guitar and being performed by a woman rather than a man is a welcomed change. It’s not entirely an acoustic cover, as there is a little help from an electric guitar that hits a really cool section utilizing a Wah Pedal to give the song MoonDreams’ trademark tropical vibe. I love the layers of vocals, the layers of guitars, and the subtle percussion that round out this performance. It’s a very nice cover!

Follow the Waves by Lavender Fire
Follow the Waves is a 5 song EP by independent recording artist, Lavender Fire. With a run time of 15 minutes, it released on September 7th, 2026. It features Lavender Fire on vocals and piano and synth. It is the third release in 2026 by Lavender Fire behind her Live album and the single, East.
Lavender Fire has been an artist I’ve really enjoyed featuring because she is a person who is coming into her own before our very eyes. As with Follow the Waves, water is a reoccurring theme in a lot of her songwriting as she touches on a number of analogies that reference her courageous acceptance of her life and being a part of the LGBTQ community, a defining moment for her.
Follow the Waves is a lovely body of work. Lavender Fire, a classically trained pianist and vocalist has been releasing alt-pop styled music that is similar to a stripped back Tori Amos. However, what I like about Follow the Waves is that it musically reverts back to her classical beginnings in several places. I would say Carried Away is the most pop sounding of the 5 songs, and from there the music scales back to classical influence. The accompaniment in Rusted Tugboat, the vocals in Paint the Day, and the crisp delivery in Woman Overboard all progressively bridge the two genres of pop and classical together. I also tend to favor when Lavender Fire’s work is more stripped-back like this. I enjoy the work the includes programmed percussion and more complex production like she’s done in the past, but the intimacy in her lyrical performance really stands out when it’s just her and a piano.
Lavender Fire is a relatively new artist, since changing her name in 2024, but she is quite active. She is often playing shows, writing and releasing new music, and she’s even been featured on local television spots talking about her music and message. She’s also been nominated for several categories of awards in Veer magazine, as well as placed in their lists of Top 50 songs for Fine Line and The Arsonist. Kintsugi by Kat Button
Kintsugi is the latest release by independent recording artist, Kat Button. It is the 6th single released in 2026, following the release of her album, Refocus, which released last September. Kintsugi runs at just under 3 minutes. It features Button on vocals and she accompanies herself with keys, synths, and programmed percussion. It was released on July 24th, independently through Kat Button Records.
Kat Button, an advocate for mental health awareness, has dedicated her musical pursuits to creating awareness for individuals who suffer with mental health disorders. Musically, she is stylistically pop, techno, and dance pop. She is comparable to Imogen Heap, Robyn, and other synth-oriented pop artists of their sorts.
Kintsugi is a slower, but percussive groove with techno-styled production elements that keep the song flowing throughout. Vocally, Button’s work is complimented by her own layered backing vocal work while delivering a powerful message of putting broken pieces together, embracing imperfections and flaws, and defining the reality of the people that live in the world we inhabit. This is a song that could definitely go on a gym playlist or something to play on a night out. It’s catchy, peppy, and the message delivers.
