It’s hard to believe we are already a week into September. The year definitely seems like it is picking up some downhill momentum as we near the last quarter of 2025. Right along with that is the production of independent music as this momentum shift seems to have been taken in stride. Every day, every week, more and more great music is dropping.

Last week, there were some pretty significant releases and some pretty major announcements in both independent and mainstream music. For starters. After a seven year break from playing live, Radiohead made the official announcement that they will be playing 20 shows across Europe, starting in November. Also, Brandi Carlile announced the upcoming release of her next album, which is being produced by Aaron Dessner of The National, who famously produced Taylor Swift’s Folklore, Evermore, and much of The Tortured Poets Department. Speaking of Swift, last month she also announced a new album AND an engagement, so congrats to her!

In indie music, there were releases from quite a few of the Fifteen Minutes of Fame favorites: Elly Kace released her 4th single to the upcoming release of her next album, Novelley released her new single The Bridge, Ryan Redwood released his next single, J Holmes released Foolin’, and Lexie Modica released Bite the Apple. If you haven’t seen it yet, last week I sat down with Modica to discuss this release, and many more fun topics.

In case you missed the announcement, in an exclusive partnership with CAN!, every Friday, I am publishing short Spotlight articles on the CAN! platform. If you are an indie artist and have not yet joined the CAN! platform, you should really consider doing so. It is a network of very passionate individuals who are committed to constructive a community for artists to safely create together. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions regarding the CAN! platform.

Strange Addiction by Taylor D

Another favorite of FMOF, Irish Indie alt-pop sensation, Taylor D has had a phenomenal summer. As she continues her tour, it was just announced that she will be opening for Brooke Alexx for her show in Ireland on October 2nd.

Additionally, Taylor has been featured in BBC, Hot Press Magazine, AND her latest release Strange Addiction, has CHARTED on two of the Irish iTunes charts; going number 3 on the overall chart and hitting NUMBER 1 on the rock chart. Congratulations, once again, on closing the summer out with some incredible news!

About the Song

Strange Addiction is the third single release by Taylor D in 2025. Following in the footsteps of March’s Born to Love You, Taylor has kept the volume turned up for Strange Addiction.

Born to Love You had more of a sarcastic dismissive tone to the object she was singing to in that release. With Strange Addiction, the intent seems more abrupt, more angry, and more deliberate. It is direct and the message is inescapable. Taylor is singing to a romantic partner she admits is a bad choice. Calling them out for their failed endeavors, their strained relationships with their friends, she points out how it’s obvious how this person’s world is crumbling from their deceitful behaviors. Yet, though she sees all of these problems and flaws, she doesn’t feel she is able to withstand their charms.

The band is on full rock display for Strange Addiction. The drummer is using every bit of their kit and the song features layers of distorted electric guitar that are volleying from one side of the mix to the other at times, then coming together in unison at other parts. The bass is locked in with the percussion to give a nice, full body of sound. Taylor’s vocal performance is pointed, controlled, and delivers each lyric with intent. It is very clear to see how this song is garnering so much attention.

(G)ood (M)orning, Cover Art

(G)ood (M)orning by Golem Pink

Part of the ever-budding indie rock scene in Portland, Oregon, Golem Pink are a queer and trans group of musicians who are doing interesting things with the release of their music. Incorporating very experimental sounds and ideas, Golem Pink are dialing into different genres, different bands, and balancing organic and synthetic performances.

Fresh off of the October 2024 release of their debut album, My Country is a Vampire and I am Full of Blood, Golem Pink are showing no signs of stopping.

About the Song

(G)ood (M)orning is the second single released by Indie rock band, Golem Pink, in 2025. It features a full band and vocal performance by the band. It is mid-to-uptempo and has some stunning dynamic shifts throughout the piece. At more than 4 minutes, (G)ood (M)orning released on August 30th.

This song is so fucking interesting. Right away, I hear three different potential inspirations; Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and The Blood Brothers. What’s interesting is the blend of these three very different but VERY complimentary styles. (G)ood (M)orning opens with a creepy dissonance that is being delivered in syncopated textures panned out to the side as the lead vocals slither through the music. The backing vocals sound bewitched, as they chant dissonantly throughout the first part of the song.

Then the second part begins and this is where a house beat seems to take over the song. Progressively building in chaos and intensity, “it’s good, it’s good” is repeated over a heavy beat. Starting with a horn section and jam-fest, it gives the same addictive energy from that spectacular Jack Black clip on the tonight show where he plays the ever-elusive Saxa-Boom Seen Here.

The transition from the first part to the second is simply extraordinary. It is fearless and brilliant music. In a year that has produced some amazing music, (G)ood (M)orning might be my favorite song of the year, to date.
