This is Me Walking Out (Reimagined) by Bernice Marsala

About the Artist

Originally from Sycamore, IL, Bernice Marsala is a musician who has found a way of staying loyal to her roots while branching out to more experimental concepts, ideas, and directions.

An award winning singer/songwriter, she now resides in Nashville, TN with her husband and their children. Bridging her Indie Folk origins with Alt Rock/Alt Pop influence, Marsala refuses to put labels on herself or her music.

Marsala debuted in 2020 with the release of Save Me, a 9-song LP. Save Me is a largely acoustic, organic indie folk, alt styled album. Even in her debut, she showed signs of wanting to experiment with her sound. In the song Always Gonna Be Me, Marsala incorporates a variety of layered vocals, synth strings, and other elements to branch from her genre.

Her follow up LP, Burgundy, released in 2023. Leaning more into the electronics, Marsala started experimenting with ambient sounds to layer the background of her songs. Adding more synthetic elements, more presence vocally, and more dynamic performances instrumentally, Burgundy represents a shift in her songwriting.

In 2024, she released the single, This is Me Walking Out, a pop rock song that is dynamic instrumentally with wonderful moments on the piano, drums, and guitar. Adding elements with additional percussions, synths, and a composition that really takes the bass for a walk, this song holds no stops. Including the woodwind section at the end of the song.

Vocally, Marsala puts out a very positive, anthemic performance that stands out beyond the accompaniment.

About the Music

This is Me Walking Out (Reimagined) is the second single released by Nashville Indie musician, Bernice Marsala in 2025. A remixed version of an earlier single, This is Me Walking Out (Reimagined) takes a new direction breathing new life into one of her most impressive records. At a runtime of 3 minutes, 30 seconds, This is Me Walking Out (Reimagined) released on October 3rd.

Unlike the original piece, Marsala’s reimagined composition is more synthetic, experimenting with strings, pads, and percussive hits. In addition to the drums, there are more non traditional percussive elements that broaden the range of the music, culturally.

Her vocal performance is perhaps the most memorable of her entire catalog of music on this record. Already a strong vocalist, the production quality and the layers upon layers of melodies and harmonies are a true standout.

Instrumentally, the piano is a standout performance for me as well. There are moments where it almost sounds like Hans Zimmer has stepped in and taken over, as impressive runs trickle into the progression either perfect timing and crisp, decisive direction.

About the Artist

We know all about Fireside Shadow and the progressive rock that she is producing out of Minnesota. Leading lady, Reba Dougherty, left fronting a band to fronting her own solo project and has been busy producing music ever since.

In March of 2025, Fireside Shadow released the debut EP, Cut You Out, which comprised of singles that were previously released.

About the Music

If it isn’t About You is the third single and fourth release from Minnesota Indie Artist, Fireside Shadow, in 2025. At around 4 minutes, it released on September 12th, 2025. Featuring Dougherty on vocals, she is accompanied by the full force of a hard rock band. If it isn’t About You was recorded and released independently by Fireside Shadow.

With every release, Fireside Shadow has been dipping her toes into more metal elements within her music. Experimenting with darker house and industrial themes, If it isn’t About You is her most significant pull to the variety of metal genres yet.

There is a very smooth blend between the synthetic/digital elements of the music and the heavier guitars. It gives a similar vibe to peak Korn, not too dissimilar from songs like Freak on a Leash or Falling Away from Me.

If it isn’t About You is a very angry, very charged song. Dougherty executes her emotional depth very well, giving one of my favorite performances out of all of her releases.
