Today is one of the busiest release days that I’ve seen in a while! There have been so many drops overnight in both mainstream and independent music. On the mainstream side, we’ve singles from Miley Cyrus, Hayley Williams, Lewis Capaldi, and the highly anticipated album from the incomparable Brandi Carlile, Returning to Myself.

There have also been several independent drops. There’s a new single from Joseph Culpepper featuring Niko Frachey, a new Western Freeway single, and more new music by Kill Murray. Make sure you show some love and spend some time listening to this music!

Cash Out, Cover Art

Cash Out by Sarah Cothran

About the Artist

Sarah Cothran isn’t the typical independent artist that is featured on Fifteen Minutes of Fame. Traditionally, we are committed to amplifying voices and songs of musicians who are struggling to find their audience. For Cothran, it would appear that isn’t the case because she has 1.5 million people listening to her every month. Her cover of As the World Caves In has been streamed more than 300 million times and has been featured on television shows like The Morning Show. She signed with Republican Records and toured with Alec Benjamin.

However, she left Republican because having creative control of her music is more of a priority to her than being part of the systemic process of churning out best sellers. She is committed to the independent process, often sharing social media content that walks through the process of recording her music. She is a sensational vocalist who, like Taylor Swift, is an alumni of my high school.

About the Song

Cash Out is the brand new release by independent recording artist, Sarah Cothran. It is her third single in 2025, after Love of Your Life and Rich Romance. It runs a little over two and a half minutes and released today, October 24th.

There is no question that Sarah Cothran is a different animal when it comes to her talents as a producer. Even when she was signed, she was adamant about having a hand in the creative control of her music, citing an embarrassing disregard for female producers in the industry. It only takes a few seconds of listening to her to realize how right she is.

From the percussion to the instrumental melody, Cash Out, is perfectly produced. The mix is precisely on point.

The story, as with all of her music is the incredible vocal presence of Cothran. She is an elite vocalist. Comparable to artists like Ariana Grande, her vocal range doesn’t even seem like it’s possible. In Cash Out, Cothran navigates through the song with layers of melodies and harmonies, coming off as a human cheat code. This song is sensational and it is scary how easy she makes it look.

The Light/Twilight, Cover Art

The Light/Twilight by North Woods

About the Artist

One of my favorite featured artists as a journalist for FMOF has been North Woods. The duo from Massachusetts are the epitome of organic harmony. I want to believe they just found each other one day and simply knew they’d make incredible music together. Rooting in acoustics and natural vibes, their foundation of folk, indie, and roots music is a must listen.

About the Song

The Light/Twilight is the second single release by indie band, North Woods. Playing as two connected songs, this single runs at a little more than 7 minutes and features piano, acoustic guitar, and flute, accompanying the harmonious voices of Sherry Aviles and Christina Thomas Taylor. It released today, October 24th.

The song opens with the segment of The Light, which opens with a very sweet acoustic composition. The vocals, understanding the assignment, enter with a whisper, “Fall has come again.”

As the vocal harmonization starts to trickle into the music, it just melts over the music and falls to rest on the song like a warm, cozy blanket. The song builds and sneaks a sustained organ into the background. There is a small flute solo that breaks up the vocal performance briefly.

In the Twilight segment, it is instrumental, with a solo piano playing a fluid melody that serves as the denouement of the song. The melody does a wonderful job of articulating its title as it sounds like twilight.

North Woods do not miss when they release music and The Light/Twilight is no exception.

I Wanna Catch an Angel, Cover Art

I Wanna Catch an Angel by Savannah Campbell

About the Artist

Another artist I’ve had the pleasure of writing about and getting to know, Florida independent artist, Savannah Campbell has begun the release cycle for her follow up album to 2023’s Wrong Side of the Radio. This Alt Roots/ Americana performer is a tailor-made, lyrical seamstress. Weaving story into melodies, she performs as if she is reading the lyrics at story time from a book of poetry.

Originally from Nashville, Campbell has been releasing music since 2023 and has been performing longer than that.

About the Song

I Wanna Catch an Angel is the second single release from independent recording artist, Savannah Campbell, in 2025. Following her August release of Flying’ Dirty, Campbell is prepping for her sophomore album release, which is promising to be a good one. At just over 4 minutes, I Wanna Catch an Angel is a slower groove that compares to artists like Fiona Apple, Jewel, and Melissa Etheridge.

Instrumentally, there is a warm blend of acoustic and electric guitars, with piano, bass, and drums providing pocket support behind the movement of the guitars.

Vocally, Campbell navigates her lyrics in a brilliant way only she could, not missing a lyric or beat. She has a unique way of being so articulative that she can say as much as she wants without it ever sounding too wordy.” The words just flow right out of her raspy southern accent in a beautiful way.

Between Flyin’ Dirty and I Wanna Catch an Angel, Campbell is exhibiting some real growth as a songwriter. This upcoming album is poised to be a departure from Wrong Side of the Radio, while also maintaining her roots as an artist.

With Love, Cover Art

With Love by David Hawkins

About the Artist

Denver-based alt pop solo artist, Dave Hawkins, is a fresh face to be featured by Fifteen Minutes of Fame. After hearing his catalog of music though, I have no doubt his eclectic sound will be welcomed with open arms.

Debuting in 2023, Hawkins released the acoustic pop single Up Ahead. Listening to this track, he quickly showcases a solid skill set on the production front. Blending the raw performance of Dashboard Confessional with the introspective production of Bon Iver’s more experimental work (22, A Million, i,i), Hawkins has founded a sounded that can certainly earn the coveted description of being “unique.”

I truly enjoyed listening to his song The Day You Never Came. Wonderful production throughout.

About the Song

With Love is the 4th single released by independent recording artist, Dave Hawkins. Releasing today, October 24th, it has a run time of right at 4 minutes. With Love is written, performed, and produced by Hawkins.

The production for With Love parallels closer to his earliest songs. Incorporating more synth, digital, and electric work, it is slightly removed from his more recent, organic work.

The production quality of With Love sounds professionally done. The transition of each building element or added instrument is smooth as it flows into the build.

David Hawkins has very catchy music that is easy to listen to. It is the type of music that can be played on a loop all day and would continue to entertain. He is one you definitely want to give a listen to!

Reset the Stars, Cover Art

Reset the Stars by Hail Your Highness

About the Artist

Hail Your Highness, the Sonic-sisters out of Michigan are on a tear of releases of late as they near the release date of their upcoming and latest EP, Wonderdust, which will be released November 14th.

This dynamic duo are doing everything right ahead of this latest release, playing shows, steadily putting out singles, and consistently bringing the heat with their ambient synth/rock sound that is both beautiful and powerful.

About the Music

Reset the Stars is the third single release and 4th release of 2025, after the April EP, You Again. It is the last single before their EP, Wanderdust, releases on November 14th. Reset the Stars runs just over 4 and a half minutes and released today, October 24th. It was written, performed, and produced by Hail Your Highness.

Reset the Stars is a steady, melodic, and percussive performance. It maintains substantial energy throughout performance and seeks diversity in sound through the various synthetic accompaniment within the layers of tracks. The drum beat is so good in the verses. It is complex but not so much that it distracts from the body of the song.

The layers of guitars are on point, as they always are with this band. The heavy reverb and fuzzy foundation really allow the song to fully encompass the rock element of this band while also threading in the ambience that makes them so special.

The vocals are solid, with layers of backing vocals ornamenting the lead. This band is radio ready. They should be playing this song on a national tour. I would love to see this band live.
