Introduction
Welcome to the FIRST recap of 2026! We are going to be changing the format of our monthly recaps going forward. They’re going to be taking a little bit more of a magazine or “zine” approach, stylistically. I hope you enjoy the new recap format, please be sure to let me know in the comments!
Remembering Renee Goode and Alex Pretti
As I reflect on January, I feel conflicted by the mixture of emotions. Fifteen Minutes of Fame is music entertainment, but sometimes the world is too powerful for us to keep our focus on what we think we are supposed to be doing. I felt some hope, some optimism heading into a new year. With promise on the horizon, I took my guard down-just a little- and like so many others, I paid for it.
There has been a lot of new great music to be released this month. In addition, I’ve had some really exciting ideas for the platform that I think have the opportunity to be more engaging and possibly help even more indie musicians find their audiences. I myself even put out my long-awaited album and I have been excited to talk about it.
But the world can be a sobering place.

On January 7th, a group of citizens rallied around the infamous law enforcement agency known as ICE to protest and bring their awareness to their community of the presence of the agents. Whistles blaring, the video images show a mildly chaotic scene before focusing in on a young woman, Renee Goode, who was in her vehicle, on the road. Bodycam images show Goode engaging with an ICE agent begrudgingly and the agent can be heard muttering words like “fucking bitch,” and Goode’s wife can also be heard verbally ostracizing the agent. Then, for whatever reason, a vehicle containing more ICE agents pull up to Goode’s vehicle. Agents jump out and approach Goode, attempting to pull her from the vehicle. Her wife can be heard telling her to “drive, babe,” as it was evident the situation had suddenly escalated. Fearing for her life, Renee Goode attempted to drive away and the disgruntled agent who had been circling her vehicle like a shark, opened fire. Goode was fatally wounded and her vehicle drove into a pole and came to rest. ICE agents drew a perimeter around the scene, not even letting a doctor check Goode’s vitals and showing no compassion in a situation where an American citizen had been suddenly attacked by a member of an agency who claims to serve America’s flag.
Social media was quick to divide the narrative. In spite of clear video footage, public record of DHS policy, and contradictions within the administration of Donald Trump, his supporters were blind to the evidence, argumentative, and practically relished the sight of a “libtard being slaughtered in the street.” Some sympathy was shown by moderate conservatives and, though their objections could be argued, they tried to justify the actions as a necessary attempt to act in self defense. It was a bold and sensationalized argument, but whatever. If that is the case, perhaps this tragic event was a one of a kind situation that wouldn’t happen again.

Seventeen days later, on January 24th, another incident involving American protesters and ICE agents ended with an American citizen being brutally shot to death in the street. Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse for the VA, was killed by agents in his home town, in his home state, in his country. His crime: trying to help a young woman up who had been shoved to the ground and pepper sprayed, refusing to stop filming agents going feral as they proceeded to abuse their power, and for being in possession of a concealed firearm. A firearm he was legally permitted to carry.
A group of agents wrestled Pretti to the ground. They started beating him with their fists and with their weapons. An agent is scene disarming Pretti by pulling his firearm from its holster in the back of his waste band, and a second later, ICE agents opened fire. 10 rounds were fired into a defenseless man who was on his hands and knees.
It wasn’t just murder. It was an execution. Again with no remorse, as agents were scene walking away, laughing and clapping. They again quickly set up a perimeter around the scene, this time even blocking law enforcement officers from investigating the incident.
Again, social media wedged the gap between its citizens even further, with misinformation and lies. Even the president made the false claim that it was illegal for a citizen to carry a firearm to a protest, in spite of pardoning hundreds of people who had been arrested for storming our nations capitol during the infamous January 6th riot, just one year prior.
This is a music entertainment magazine. We usually try to keep the mood a bit light-hearted and stay on topic. I simply cannot justify not even mentioning these incidents. This is more than just murder. This is the murder of two American citizens by two federal law enforcement agents. These murders could very well be the tipping point that brings our nation to war. Injustices occur every single day in our country. Ask any one of our brothers and sisters of a different ethnicity. Ask any woman. Ask any member of the LGBTQ community. Injustices occur every day and I’m not blind to that. This isn’t different in that regard.
This is different because of the circumstances that led to these murders in our nation, given the polarized political climate. The tension has been at a breaking point for a while. Then, with shots fired and two citizens brought to a violent deadly end, it broke.
I don’t want to speculate on the future. I don’t want to debate the issues, the culture and climate of our nation, and I don’t want to perpetuate the polarized climate we find ourselves in. I simply want to pay respect to the lives and memories of Renee Goode and Alex Pretti. I want to give my condolences to their families. I want to assure them that we know their lives were unnecessarily sacrificed and we will not forget them.
TOO HOT FOR LEATHER: Conversations, Tours, and New Music on the Horizon

Of all the ways to ring in the new year, being able to sit down with this great Nashville-based indie band was truly special. John, Kevin, Ryan, and Shannon opened up about the highs and the lows of the music industry as independent artists. Taking us from their humble beginnings, the conception of their name, to how they learned to delegate tasks and eventually get a deal with a booking agency.
Too Hot for Leather are currently on the road opening their Superhero Tour. Though they’ve had some struggles with the weather, they recently played NAMM and they’re making do in lieu of cancellations from this gnarly ice storm that’s covered the east coast.
They also released their first single in 10 months, Beef Stew, which is streaming on all platforms. If you haven’t heard it yet, here’s your chance!
Too Hot for Leather have all of the makings to be the next big name in rock and roll. Regardless of their destination; whether they find major success in mainstream music or they have a satisfactory career as independent musicians playing for their loyal fan base, touring, and putting in the grind, it is an honor that they blocked out some time to stop and hang with me in route to wherever it is their music takes them. I’m a fan, I’m a friend, and I’ll be there supporting them every step of the way.
New Releases in January
Here at Fifteen Minutes of Fame, we are all about reviewing new music. That is the “meat and potatoes” of this platform. It’s nice when we find different ways to reach an audience, an artist, or most importantly introduce the two, but we fully endorse the power of the written word. January gave us an opportunity to dive into some great new music.
Gallowglass by Ann Ramsey

This album was a great look into traditional folk music and Ann Ramsey did not disappoint with her debut. She is definitely a solid choice for fans of roots, folk, bluegrass, and more traditionally organic genres.

Chasing the Melody by Reverend Rooster
It is no secret that the Reverend is a fan favorite for this platform. He’s been reviewed numerous times. I would really love to sit down with him and maybe do an interview. He is a remarkable storyteller and his latest album is no exception to that. Chasing the Melody is out on all streaming platforms.
Jordi by Jordi

Listening to this debut album won’t exactly get new listeners in on the ground floor, but this incredible record is just the beginning for Jordi, an indie artist out of South Carolina. Jordi may be a young artist but she is well established on social media. She has earned millions of followers across all platforms and she’s already earned hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify with some of her songs already having more than 10 million streams!
Honeymoons by Greenness
Experimental, alt-rock artists, Greenness are a band you do not want to sleep on out of the UK. They fuse one genre after another with eloquence. With the release of their sophomore album, Honeymoons, there will be something new to pull with every single listen!

Fifteen Minutes of Fame Artist Spotlight
Kevin MF King
Talented multi-instrumentalist, Kevin MF King is an independent artist based out of Connecticut. A former member of the hardcore band, Intercourse, King has a musical taste that spans across many genres including folk, psychedelic rock, indie rock, and more.

King debuted as a solo artist in 2019, with the release Croatoan, a 9 song album that runs just over 15 minutes. In 2020, he followed his debut with the single, Disappearance Registrar, the 4-song EP, Riots Plague Tolls, another single, Electric Eye, and his second album, Description of an Orange Being Peeled
In 2025, King spent a lot of time in the recording studio. So much, in fact, that he ended up recording 98 songs. On January 9th, King released a compilation of those recordings entitled Death Antiques. This album features 20 songs with only a run time of 37 minutes. It is mostly instrumental. The style of music spans from alternative rock to some more ambient styles of rock, sound experimentation, and even jazz influence. King likes to tap into unique percussive transitions, as well as play with different modes melodically, as with the song Drift.

There is an interesting technique exhibited how King chooses to harmonize the different instruments. In the song I Aged Many Years That Night, the instruments blend in a way that they’re sort of doing their own thing but finding each other, almost as if it were an afterthought. Almost like a chamber ensemble were warming up before a rehearsal but their warm ups align as they can inevitably hear one another. It’s a pleasant and nostalgic (for me) sound.
My favorite song on the entire album is Dissociative Fugue, which has a piercing organ that anchors everything together throughout most of the song. It is supported by a steady rhythm throughout the piece and alternates with supporting instrumentation from a piano and guitar, with bass guitar laying a foundation for the progression throughout the entire song as well.
Another favorite of mine is the blues/alt fusion of Hello From the Gutter. This song poses as an exception as it features a vocal performance by King as well. It is a grunge-style performance and really embodies the energy of the music.

Evaporate is OUT

Speaking of “spreading the love,” I definitely have been feeling the love personally since the release of Evaporate on January 16th. I have appreciated every single stream, every single download, and every single purchase. I hosted a listening party on Bandcamp on January 14th and I was completely blown away by those who attended and gave their support. Thank you to each and every one of you.
I must admit, as happy as I feel about having this album out in the world, it is a little hard to feel the desire to celebrate and promote it on social media with the world burning before our very eyes. As old as I am and as long as I’ve inhabited this planet, I know it’s not possible to prevent bad things from happening. I just don’t always feel up for celebrating when American citizens are being gunned down by their own government. I know it is offensive to many, but as a combat veteran who served this country with pride, I take incredible offense to how our country is being governed.
The best we can do is to be better. To rise above this hate. February is the perfect time to abolish hatred with love. I know I announced a contest with the potential of winning a vinyl copy of Evaporate, but I am also happy to announce that, for the month of February, 50% of ALL profits for Evaporate will be paid to Appalachia Service Project; that includes royalties from streaming, downloads, and vinyl purchases. ASP is a non profit organization founded in 1969. Their commitment to the Appalachia region of the United States has been vital, as they make homes warmer, safer, and dryer for families in desperate need of help. As a youth, growing up in middle Tennessee, I volunteered for ASP for 6 summers in a row (one week per summer), then I proudly served as a member of the ASP summer staff from 2003 to 2005.

Final Thoughts
It is a new year, with a new direction, and I thought it was time Fifteen Minutes of Fame got on board. This may be all over the place. As with every vision, it starts with chaos but it will turn into something better as I go. Anyways, there is plenty to be excited about as we roll into February! New music, new artists, new formats.
I know I’m excited, and I hope you are too!
Go Press Play!
