Grace Bowers

Grace Bowers has already accomplished a career that most of us would define as “dreams coming true,” and she is only 20 years old. In a world of more than 8 billion people, she is easily one of the top guitar players today and, again, she is just 20 years old.

Now, having released a handful of singles, she is releasing her debut EP under her independent label, Grace Bowers Music.

Grace is the debut EP of independent recording artist, Grace Bowers. It’s 5 songs that run at approximately 16 minutes and features previously released singles Eat Shit and Live, 19, and Cigarettes for Breakfast. It releases today, November 6th, and is released independently through Grace Bowers Music.

I hesitate to use the cliché stereotype of Joan Jett. Generally, I think it’s lazy. Yes, they are two women who perform punk rock by singing and playing electric guitar. They aren’t the only ones. In this example, however, the distinction is really interesting.

Grace is the very definition of punk rock. Eat Shit and Live, a song about taking our lumps and loving it because we only get to do this once. Cigarettes for Breakfast is about standing up to a feeling of being mistreated. Whether it’s a relationship or being scrutinized in the spotlight. Hollywouldn’t rejects the mainstream culture, unafraid to bite the hand that feeds her.

This EP is about as punk rock as it gets. She sings through a raspy voice and she plays the shit out of her guitar.

It is bad ass.

I’m sold. I am so glad that she has decided to focus her career on her music. As it turns out, that music is really, really good.

Go press play.
