Jade Imani, a singer/songwriter out of Miami, has just released her debut single, Free, on September 18th. At only 15 years old, Imani wrote her debut inspired by the idea of finding the confidence to choose one’s own path and embracing independence.

Originally from New York, Imani began singing in church at 11. She is dedicated in the pursuit of becoming a recording artist by participating in events like GRAMMY Camp and Juilliard Summer Performing Arts. She is also performing at local events like Miami Girls Rock Camp.

Free is the debut single by Miami-based independent recording artist, Jade Imani. At around 3 and a half minutes, it features Imani on vocals accompanied by a full band featuring guitar, banjo, piano, harmonica, bass, and drums. Free was recorded at The Gooddays 305 recording studio in Miami. Free was written and performed by Jade Imani. It is also being released independently by Imani.

Free is an upbeat fusion of contemporary pop, roots, and Americana. The composition is catchy, positive, and moving. Lyrically, it addresses confronting adversity in pursuit of breaking through expectations and finding one’s own path.

Her range transitions from a high alto to low soprano throughout and she also transitions well from her chest voice to her head voice. There is a warm, silky tone to her voice. She has impressive control over her ornamentation: vibrato and vocal runs. She hits these elements with quick precision and doesn’t oversaturate the performance with them.

Free would be an impressive debut for an adult coming into the recording scene. At just 15, this release is extraordinary. Jade Imani has a gift for composition, and she is a profound songwriter as well. She tells her story through phrasing and analogy. She ponders questions that we all face and does it in a manner that translates to listeners of all ages.

In an industry that stresses the importance of first impressions, Jade Imani has definitely made a good one with her debut, Free. This inspiring pop/Americana tune is infectiously pleasant and will have listeners tapping their foot to the melody. At 15, she is bursting with potential and I can’t wait to hear more from her.
